Celebrate the Sea Winner!

A Cotton Photo is incredibly honored to be the recipient of the WOW Philippines Hi-Five Portfolio 2009 Outstanding Achievement award at Celebrate the Sea in Manila this past weekend. Image submissions from the CTS finalist and winners are included in the montage below. A "Diablo Rojo" Night

They are said to be vicious, aggressive predators undiscriminating in their attacks on whatever they find themselves in the water with, this wasn't my experience in the water with these beauties. On a recent trip to the Sea of Cortez I had the incredible fortune to shoot Humboldt Squid. Looking into their eyes while inches away from my camera you can't help but to sense the intelligence of these creatures. I was in awe of their grace and speed as they moved underwater. Several encounters had the "Diablo Rojo-Red Devils" gently caressing and fondling the dome port of my camera housing, in an attempt to figure out this new and unusual "creature" it had come across. The squid were curious and inquisitive, but never aggressive, even with several in the water.
